For more than 15 years, the HomeCourt+ summer series has grown community spirit in Garfield Park. On July 7, Breakthrough hosted the first HomeCourt+ this summer in St. Louis Park. The block party featured competitive basketball games, food, music, a photo booth, and more fun activities for all ages.
“We all know that during the warmer months Chicago sees an uptick in violence so what we want to do is try to combat that,” said Damien Morris, Chief Program Officer of Violence Prevention.
“We want to provide a safe place for not only the youth to enjoy basketball games but also for people in this community to come out to where they can enjoy food, music, and just have a good experience overall,” said DeAngelo Johnson, Associate Director of Sports and Fitness programs.
