On Saturday, November 18, a truck filled with Thanksgiving meal baskets arrived at Breakthrough from Soul City Church. Our annual Harvest Happenings event provides turkeys and all the trimmings for a Thanksgiving meal to 750 families in Garfield Park. Throughout the morning, volunteers brought in and organized the baskets, distributed them to community members, and loaded them into cars.
Melvin, a community member and veteran who came to the event, said, “I am thankful to Breakthrough for this turkey giveaway and all the people that help us have a happy Thanksgiving.” Melvin said he regularly visits Breakthrough’s Fresh Market food pantry during the year to access groceries.
Thanksgiving is a special time for all of us to gather around our tables with our loved ones. We are grateful for Soul City Church’s generous partnership and the opportunity to share the joy of Thanksgiving with our community. Click here to view photos from the event.
