For many people, Christmas is a time to spend with family, creating cherished memories and exchanging gifts. However, not everyone has the means to enjoy the gift giving experience.
Since 2003, the Breakthrough Christmas Store has provided families in Chicago’s East Garfield Park neighborhood, as well as participants in Breakthrough’s programs, a dignified way to purchase gifts for their loved ones at a fraction of the cost. Items like Lego sets, barbie doll houses, and video games are available for up to 90 percent off the retail price.
From the start of the holiday season, Breakthrough asks its network of volunteers, supporters, and donors to help with a gift drive, purchasing gifts to help us stock this unique store. Members of the community are then invited to shop for gifts for their families and join in spreading holiday joy in East Garfield Park.
The 2018 Christmas Store set new highs for donated gifts received and families served! We would not be able to walk alongside our community without such passionate support.
